Hyndburn and Ribble Valley School Sports Partnership

Giving our children access to a wide range of sporting opportunities is something that, at St Oswald's, we feel is a vital part of a child's journey through school.  It is our aim that every child in Key Stage One and Key Stage Two will attend a sporting festival or competition at least once, every academic year.   Due to the commitment of our parents, children and staff we won the award for most school events attended in 2023-24 academic year in Hyndburn.  Call into school and see our amazing trophy!

 

These are the exciting events and competitions that our children will attend and compete in each year.

 

KEY STAGE ONE

  • Come and Try Dance Festival at St Augustine's RC High School.  The Intent of the event is to participate in a range of activities focusing on co-ordination, team work and learning new skills using a range of equipment. 

 

  • Gymnastics Festival at Hyndburn Sports Centre.  The intent of the event is to encourage safe risk taking through using new equipment in an unfamiliar setting. 

 

  • Animal Olympics at Accrington Academy.  The intent of the event is to participate in a range of activities focusing on agility, balance and co-ordination with an emphasis on fun.

 

  • Girls Disney Princess Football at St Augustine's RC High School.  The intent of the event is to learn new skills, work a part of a team and to try something new.

 

  • Kurling at Accrington Academy.  The intent of the event is to learn new skills, work a part of a team and to try something new.

 

KEY STAGE TWO

  • Glow in the Dark Dodgeball for Year 5 and 6 at Mount Carmel High School.  The intent of the competition is to encourage fair play and honesty in those who take part.

 

  • Physical Activities Festival for Year 5 and 6 at Hyndburn Sports Centre.  The intent of the competition is to improve the health of the individuals taking part

 

  • Team Building for Year 5 and 6 at Hey's Sports Complex.  The intent of the competition is to improve communication and Team work in those who take part.

 

  • Sportshall Athletics for Year 5 and 6 at Oakhill College.  The intent of the event is to participate in a range of activities focusing on agility, balance and co-ordination with an emphasis on fun.

 

  • Glow in the Dark Dodgeball for Year 3 and 4 at Mount Carmel High School.  The intent of the competition is to encourage fair play and honesty in those who take part.

 

  • Girls Football for Year 3 and 4 at Accrington Academy. The intent of the competition is to develop new football skills and Team work in those who take part.

 

  • Quad Kids Athletics for Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 at Hey's Sports Complex.  The intent of the event is to participate in a range of activities focusing on agility, balance and co-ordination with an emphasis on fun.

 

  • Striking and Fielding Festival for Year 3 and 4 at Accrington Academy.  The intent of the event is to, considering age or maturity levels, support fair competition and foster social connections

 

  • Cricket competition for Year 4 and 5 at Rishton Cricket Club. The Intent of the event is to participate in a competition where team work, resilience and determination are vital. 

 

  • Orienteering at Wilson's Playing Fields.  The Intent of the event is to work as a team, solve problems and show resilience in order to achieve a goal. 

 

  • Rugby Mega Fest at Hays Sports Complex. The Intent of the event is to participate in a competition where team work, resilience and determination are vital.

Find out below what our children thought of the amazing events and competitions that they have attended.

 

Come and Try Dance Festival

I enjoyed dancing with the ribbons and pompoms.  I showed lots of determination when I ran out of breath but I kept going - Niamh.

I enjoyed dancing with the hoops.  When other people found it hard, I helped them - Brandon.

 

Glow in the Dark Dodgeball

I enjoyed playing dodgeball in the dark, it was a lot of fun.  It was hard to see the other team sometimes, but I did not give up - Ava.

It made it lots of fun because it was in the dark and that made it harder.  I showed honesty because when someone hit me, I went out instead of carrying on playing - Ibrahim. 

I enjoyed playing glow in the dark dodgeball as I had never played that before.  I showed respect through giving other people a turn and not just keeping the ball to myself - Murtaza.

I really enjoyed that it was in the dark as it was more of a challenge.  I showed honesty by playing fairly and by the rules - Ellie. 

 

Physical Activity Festival

I found the circuits fun and I enjoyed it because it's the sort of thing that I like to do.  I showed determination as I kept going even when it got hard - Quinn.

I enjoyed playing squash because it was like tennis and I have played that before.  I showed self-belief by believing that I could do it even when it was hard - Zahra.

 

Sport Hall Athletics Competition

I enjoyed the I got to do different activities.  I showed respect for other by cheering them on - Poppie.

I enjoyed the races and everyone cheering for each other.  I showed teamwork by helping my teammates when they didn't know how to do an activity - Alana.

 

Taster Gymnastics Sessions

I liked climbing up the really big ladder and balancing on the big long beam.  I helped my team mates - Cory

I liked doing the star jumps on the trampoline.  When I did my star jump wrong, I just tried again and didn't give up - Rosa.

I liked jumping into the foam pit.  I thought holding the bars was hard but I did not give up - Gracie-Lou.

I liked the trampoline.  I helped my friends on the bars because it was hard - Henry.

 

Team Building

I liked the orienteering event the most at Wilson's Playing Fields.  I showed teamwork by communicating to others and listening to their ideas - Hamza.

I liked building the jigsaw together at Wilson's Playing Fields.  I showed teamwork by listening to the members of my team and we all then worked together to build it - Eva.

 

Girls Football

I liked the different matches that we played.  I showed teamwork by making sure everyone on my team was involved and got the ball - Manahil.

I liked learning how to dribble the ball.  I showed self-belief because I never usually play football and I really enjoyed it - Nicole. 

 

Quad Kids

I liked running in the races.  I showed determination because it was a really long way round the running track and I didn't give up - Eshaan.

I liked the standing long jump.  I showed self-belief because I didn't think I could do it but I did and I enjoyed it - Eva.

 

Cricket

I really enjoyed the cricket as we got to play lots of matches against different schools.  I showed teamwork when I caught the ball and got it back to the wicket keeper, also when I encouraged my team mate to run - Hassan.

I enjoyed playing with people that I wouldn't normally play with at my school.  I showed lots of determination because I didn't give up, even when we weren't winning - Mason. 

 

Animal Olympics

I really liked the egg and spoon races.  I worked as a team because we all took turns - Alex

I liked jumping.  I found the throwing really hard but I didn't give up - Capri.

 

Girls Disney Football

I liked scoring the goals in the match.  I was honest when I said I hadn't scored and everyone thought I had - Eleanor.

I liked playing football.  I always kicked the ball to my friends - Inaaya.

 

Striking and Fielding Events

I enjoyed this event because I made new friends from the other schools.  I showed respect by being polite to the other children from the other schools - Willow. 

I liked that it was a competition and lots of people were trying their best to win.  I showed teamwork by helping other people in my team - Abdullah

 

Orienteering

I enjoyed exploring the environment around me.  I showed teamwork by listening to the ideas of my partner - Innaya.

I enjoyed orienteering in the forest area as it was somewhere a little different.  I showed teamwork through helping my partner find the different places on the map - Jack. 

 

Tri-Golf (Lancashire School Games representing Team Hyndburn)

I enjoyed the variety of different activities which we got to do.  I showed team work by cheering on each member of my team - Maryam.

I enjoyed the different teams competing in all of the different activities.  I showed respect to the other teams by smiling and not getting in their way - Chloe.
