Curriculum RE

Religious Education is a huge part of life at St Oswald's - Christ is at the centre of all we do.  St. Oswald's follows the Come and See Catholic Primary Religious Education Programme from Nursery through to Year Six. This is the Religious Education scheme recommended by Salford Diocese.

The programme is an invitation to exploration and promise of life for everyone and offers the opportunity to search, explore, discover and respond; this is part of what it is to be human.

Come and See aims to raise questions and provide materials for children to reflect on their own experiences. For all children, the programme will raise questions of meaning and purpose and enable them to think critically.

The scheme will help children to explore the beliefs and values and the way of life of the Catholic traditions as well as those of other faiths. As part of our Religious Education curriculum, a unit of study is dedicated to exploring a further world religion. In consultation with pupils and parents, the chosen world religion at St Oswald's is Islam.

Come and See is a programme that has been developed to respond to the needs of children today as they progress upon their faith journey, enabling them to grow in their religious literacy.

All classes throughout the school study the same fundamentals with a differentiated theme suited to their age.

The main themes are:

The Church                          The Sacraments                      Christian Living

In addition to the Come and See scheme, our curriculum is designed to celebrate the liturgical year in the Catholic Church.

Big Questions in RE

At St Oswald's we aim to develop religiously literate pupils, who are able to ask and respond to questions of meaning and purpose.  These questions come in the form of 'Big Questions' which are asked and discussed during each topic themed unit.
