OFSTED Report 2025

I am delighted to share with you at last the outcome of our recent Ofsted inspection, and I am very proud of all who were involved. The report highlights the many strengths of our school, and I am thrilled that the inspection team recognised the excellent work we do here at St Oswald's RC Primary School & Nursery.

The report notes that children clearly enjoy being at school and are proud to belong to our welcoming community. It states that children settle quickly in the early years, growing in confidence and independence. The effective support of our caring staff, who know the children well, enables them to progress through the school successfully.

The inspectors were particularly impressed by the outstanding behaviour and attitudes they observed amongst all our children. They noted that the children's behaviour was impeccable in class, and that they focus on their learning exceptionally well. Our pupils are polite and considerate, understanding how their behaviour impacts on others. The older children provide an excellent example for their younger peers to follow, happily adhering to the school's values and rules, which create a safe and happy environment for the whole school community.

The report highlights the outstanding personal development opportunities provided at St Oswald's. Our children enjoy the many ways in which they can make a positive contribution to the school and wider community, such as through the roles of playground leaders and their involvement in activities that promote environmental awareness and personal well-being. The school ensures that our pupils develop a rich understanding and appreciation of the diverse world in which they live, preparing them well to embrace the wider world as they grow older.

The inspectors noted that the school has high ambitions for our pupils' academic success, providing them with many positive role models and high-quality opportunities. Our curriculum is ambitious, and the children build up a useful body of knowledge that they can recall and apply across the curriculum. The school's strong focus on reading ensures that most of our pupils become accomplished readers by the end of Year 6.

While the report identifies no areas for significant improvement, we are already well on our way to addressing the areas for development as they were in our own self-evaluation and school development plan. I am confident that the impact of our work in these areas already will be evident in the coming years as the children progress through the school.

I am immensely proud of our school community and the achievements of our wonderful children. Thank you for your continued support, which is vital in helping us to provide the best possible education and opportunities for all our pupils.
